Sanquhar Academy is located in the Upper Nithsdale area of Dumfries and Galloway, serving the Royal Burgh of Sanquhar and the neighbouring villages of Kirkconnnel, Kelloholm and Wanlockhead.
Sanquhar is within easy reach of large parts of Dumfries and Galloway, Ayrshire and Lanarkshire. The school enjoys strong support from its parents and excellent links with the wider community.
We are dedicated to continuously improving the quality of our learning, teaching and support in order to ensure that all of our young people strive to achieve their goals and aspirations. We also seek to further develop in our learners the skills, qualities and attributes that enable them to be valuable members of their community.
Sanquhar Academy was inspected by Education Scotland in September 2016 and was rated as ‘Good’ for all four Quality Indicators measured. A copy of the letter sent to parents following this visit can be found here.
The successful candidate will join a committed and effective subject team and will have the opportunity to develop and deliver Technical courses throughout the Broad, General Education and the Senior Phase up to and including Higher level.
Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT in the appropriate sector.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
