Teaching ServicePittwater High School is a large co-educational school of over 1000 students on Sydney’s Northern Beaches with a highly committed school community, executive, teaching and administrative staff. The school is committed to embedding evidence based pedagogical practices to develop resilient, self-regulated learners who are well prepared to move successfully into their future careers. Currently, accelerated courses are offered in Aboriginal Studies, Multimedia and Investigating Science. Our school has impressive amenities including collaborative learning spaces, digital media centre, modern science laboratories, a performing arts space, outdoor classroom facilities and gymnasium, a senior kitchen and an industry standard trade training centre. The school is a BYOD school which is supported by an extensive technology infrastructure which effectively services all classrooms. Unique features of Pittwater High School include the school's instrumental program, including the renowned symphonic orchestra, Cabrananga which is a support unit which caters for 21 students with diverse needs and an Agriculture program which caters for roughly 185 students from Year 8 through to the HSC. Our school monitors and tracks the educational outcomes and well-being of all students including developing efficacy and self-regulation. Teachers know and challenge their students with a focus on developing a growth mindset to reach their potential. This is further supported by the focus of our Collective Teacher Efficacy teams who explicitly analyse student data to meet the diverse needs of our students. Students annually develop their education plans which reflect on their prior achievements and determine their future learning goals which are evaluated twice a year. Regular reviews and interviews are conducted with students to support them in challenging themselves and achieving their learning goals. We have a highly successful student leadership program including prefect leadership portfolios in the areas of Culture and Community, Social Justice, Sport, Health and Wellbeing and Environment and Sustainability. Extra-curricular activities such as The Aiming High Challenge, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, The Art Club, Science Club and Chess Club add to the rich learning culture in our school.
