Teacher Training & Support Volunteer - Uganda  

An exciting opportunity has arisen with RedEarth Education in Masindi, Uganda. The UK-registered charity is looking to appoint TWO teaching volunteers to work on training and support projects with their Ugandan team. This one year programme, starting in September 2016, includes free accommodation and a weekly living allowance, as well as flights to and from Uganda generously funded by REdteachers.

This is a fantastic professional development opportunity for teachers with at least 3 years’ experience. Supporting teachers from under-resourced, rural schools, you will be challenged to solve problems creatively, build lasting relationships with staff and improve your own teaching practices. The skills you gain will be invaluable to your future teaching career, enabling you to take leadership within schools and implement long-term change.

You will gain unique skills in:

  • Observing & monitoring schools
  • Assessing teacher performance & providing feedback
  • Supporting Headteachers in developing systems & management strategies
  • Preparing & delivering teacher training
  • Leading school staff in implementing change
  • Writing action plans to improve teaching
  • Assisting with lesson planning and delivery for a variety of subjects & ages

About RedEarth Education

RedEarth Education is a UK registered charity set up in 2006 by three retired teachers.  We are a small but growing charity supporting the professional development of primary school teachers in Western Uganda. The job involves joining our team of 6 Field Officers and supporting around 10 schools, providing in school support and training. The training mainly focuses on good practice teaching methodology and early reading – in an education system where 80% of children do not finish primary school. Our work has impacted the learning of over 50,000 children and supported the professional growth of hundreds of teachers.
