Fir Vale School are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate individual to work within our new Literacy Hub on an accelerated literacy curriculum.  The successful candidate will deliver a Literacy/ESOL/TEFL/phonics/reading based curriculum to students with low levels of Literacy or Standard English to fast-track their academic development. 

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to offer further challenge and literacy knowledge extension to our highest ability students, ensuring they are stretched and exposed to high quality literature.  

The post would suit an individual who is ambitious and has an interest in working with students from a range of cultures and backgrounds within a very supportive environment.     

The successful candidate will possess excellent literacy, numeracy and ICT skills; the ability to communicate effectively; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; show initiative and accept guidance.  


Key responsibilities:

• Planning, preparing and delivering learning activities for small groups of different ages, abilities, language levels from a variety of countries and cultural backgrounds. 

• Assess, record and report on the students’ achievement, progress and development. 

• Withdrawal support for students who are below or above their chronological reading age. 

• Be able to model outstanding practice in Literacy, both within the Literacy Hub and across the wider curriculum.  

• Be enthusiastic about helping young people to succeed.  

• Have the ability to form strong professional relationships with young people.  

• Have high expectations for the behaviour and academic progress of young people.  

• Liaise with students’ parents and other external stakeholders at key points in the year or when they arrive new to the school
