About Plumberow Primary Academy

**Please scroll to the bottom of this page to view our live vacancies**

Plumberow Primary Academy is a very large 3 form Academy with approximately 650 pupils on roll. We have facilities that we are proud of, including two halls, a spacious ICT suite, a large field, a designated cooking room, a well maintained library and an outdoor swimming pool. Teaching areas are both safe and well maintained, providing a stimulating working environment for the pupils.

We aim to provide a happy, safe, and caring community, where everyone is encouraged and supported to achieve their goals.

The teachers and support staff form a very strong team and work closely with the Governing Body and Academies Enterprise Trust to promote high standards throughout Plumberow. Parental involvement is largely encouraged through a well established induction policy for new entrants and an open door policy. A large number of parents provide invaluable voluntary support in classes throughout the academy and there is a well established PTA, which provides a programme of fundraising activities throughout the year.

The academy teaches a broad and balanced curriculum which is enriched by a wide range of extra curricular activities. There is a very strong emphasis on sport and music within the academy and academy teams compete very successfully in a wide range of inter-school sports activities.

Tom Bottrill - Headteacher

Aims

Our committed and friendly staff aim to:

  • Provide an environment in which the children feel safe, secure and happy, and are able to become confident, independent learners.
  • Build on success by assessing each child as an individual and starting with what the child can do.
  • Ensure the development of the whole child according to age, ability and aptitude.
  • Value the partnership with parents and encourage relationships with the local community

Values

  • We will care for others
  • We will be powerful learners
  • We will strive for personal achievement
  • We will always challenge ourselves
  • We will work together to be good citizens

Our school values are celebrated weekly in our ‘Celebration Assembly’. Children will receive a celebration certificate.

Curriculum

The academy aims to provide a broad, balanced, coherent curriculum for the children that tries, as far as possible, to meet their individual needs.

Our prime aim is to deliver the National Curriculum. This consists of the following subjects:

Core Subjects

  • English
  • Maths
  • ICT
  • Science

Foundation Subjects

  • Geography
  • History
  • Design Technology
  • PSHCE
  • Art
  • RE
  • P.E.
  • Music
  • Modern Foreign Languages

The academy has developed planned modules relating to the National Curriculum.

Assessment Profiling is carried out in the Foundation Stage within the first few weeks of children starting with the academy. This is done implicitly so that children continue with child led tasks and activities and are unaware that observations are taking place.

On-going assessment is carried out throughout the academic year in order to inform teacher assessment and support children in recognising what they need to do in order to progress further in their learning.

Teachers also use a range of test materials in order to inform their assessments. These support evidence of pupil attainment, serving as an indication of their independent ability.

The results of Year 6 SATs tests are reported to parents and the results published.

Children are set according to ability in English and Maths in Years 5 and 6, whilst in Year 3 and 4, they are set in Maths only. There is an obligation to spend a large part of curricular time in the teaching of the Core subjects (English, Maths, ICT and Science).

Information from testing and teacher assessment is also used to set achievable targets for individuals and Year groups.
