We are looking to a recruit a Teacher with SENCO responsibilities to join a team offering a comprehensive education service for young people with special educational needs and associated challenging behaviour. The role will support our aim of raising educational achievements by leading and coordinating provision for all our pupils, ensuring that every child reaches their full potential.

DUTIES

• To teach either individuals, or small groups within or outside the classroom, including preparation and delivery of lessons and resources.

• Carry out assessments of pupils with SEN to identify needs and monitor progress, including observations in the classroom and meeting with teachers, ensuring that safe and appropriate care practices are always maintained.

• To support and work with the Head of Education, teachers, parents and relevant external agencies to develop, implement and monitor individual learning plans.

• To provide regular written updates on pupil progress through written reports and meetings with parents.

• To keep a profile of children with special educational needs.

• To make referrals and liaise with professionals outside of the school. This could include psychologists, speech and language therapists, and occupational therapists.

• To provide advice, guidance and training to teachers on supporting pupils with SEN

• To support teachers to develop schemes of work and learning programmes for pupils with SEN.

• To support teachers to develop and implement effective teaching and behaviour management approaches in the classroom.

• Manage and advise on the school budget for SEN purposes.

• To develop and maintain school systems for keeping pupil records, ensuring information is correct and up to date.

• Keep up to date with national and local policies relating to SEN

SKILLS

• A strong commitment to raising educational attainment for children and young people with SEN, including working with pupils directly and supporting other staff to do so

• A willingness and ability to develop specialist knowledge and keep up to date with local and national policy and developments.

• Influencing and negotiation skills - to influence school strategy and policy and secure the necessary support from external agencies.

• Leadership skills – to inspire and motivate other teachers , role model good practise to supporting pupils with SEN.

• Interpersonal skills - for building relationships with pupils and parents and teachers.

• Written communication skills – for writing learning and support plans, reports on pupils progress.

• Organisation and time-management skills – needed for prioritising and balancing a busy day and varied workload.

• Empathy and emotional intelligence skills – for recognising and responding sensitively to the needs of pupils and parents.

• Analytical and problem-solving skills – for developing appropriate strategies and interventions.
