The Motiv8 School is an independent special school for up to 20 pupils aged 14–16 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, autism, and communication or learning difficulties.

 

We provide a nurturing, individualised learning environment focused on preparing young people for life beyond school, promoting resilience, confidence, and independence.

Role Overview

This is an exciting role for someone who is passionate about improving outcomes for young people. The post includes a small teaching commitment, as well as providing mentoring, academic support, and pastoral care. You will play a key role in guiding learners through challenges, building resilience, and helping them develop essential skills for life beyond school.

Job Purpose

The Teaching and Learning Mentor plays a vital role in supporting learners’ academic progress, personal development, and well-being. The post holder will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to provide targeted learning support, deliver a small teaching commitment, mentor individual learners, and contribute to a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment. The role is central to helping learners overcome barriers, develop confidence, and achieve their potential both in school and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

-Support teaching and learning across different subjects
-Deliver a small teaching commitment
-Provide one-to-one and small group mentoring
-Deliver targeted interventions to address learning gaps
-Support behaviour, engagement, and emotional well-being
-Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and the pastoral team
-Liaise with parents and external agencies where required
-Provide classroom cover when needed

We are looking for someone who:

-Builds positive and trusting relationships with young people
-Can motivate disengaged learners and promote confidence
-Has strong communication and behaviour management skills
-Works well as part of a small, dedicated team
-Is resilient, calm, and solution-focused
-Has experience working with young people with additional needs (desirable)
