Job overview

Warren Mead Junior School is looking for a Teaching Assistant / ELSA to work alongside and support the Class Teacher, making effective use of resources in order to achieve the highest standards of learning and achievement for all children. 

The role will also include supporting individual children as an ELSA and working with small groups. 

You will also support the school improvement plan led by the Headteacher, whilst promoting the well-being of staff and children in the school. You may be currently working as an ELSA or be interested in undertaking training to develop this side of the role.

This would be for 5 days per week, working 8:45am-Midday and 1pm-3:15pm with a half hour unpaid lunch break within that time (25 hours), over 39 weeks of the year. 

ELSA experience and training desirable but training will be provided for the right candidate.

We believe in lifelong learning and would be interested to hear from candidates who are interested becoming an advanced teaching assistant or trainee teacher in the future.

The role would be to run small intervention groups over all year groups.

Person Specification

o experience of working successfully with children essential
o good behaviour management skills
o ability to assess and identify a child’s achievement and next step learning needs
o able to plan motivating and engaging activities to meet the targets
o self motivated and able to think for yourself
o good communicator with children and staff/parents
o able to work well in a team
o flexible and ready for changes within the school day
o keen to listen and learn
o physically fit and able to work at all levels
o enthusiastic and have lots of energy

Necessary skills

o English and Maths GCSE/O Level Grade C or above
o IT literate – competent with Word and Internet

Salary Range: FTE £15,461-£17,489 Pro Rata £9,152 - £10,353 (based on 25 hours)

Please note that the successful applicant would also work as a Midday Supervisor for 1 hour at Lunchtime (12-1pm) and would be paid at a FTE rate of £15,341
