ROLE SUMMARY:

Ivy House School thrives as a distinguished, co-educational, and non-denominational school, for boys and girls aged 2-11, nestled within the green spaces of Golders Hill Park in Hampstead. The school prides itself on creating a nurturing environment where each pupil’s individuality is encouraged while fostering a love for learning. 

 

We are seeking a Teaching Assistant to work as part of a strong team: to help teaching staff in the preparation of lessons, to provide one-to-one support for the children (both in an educational and pastoral capacity), to carry out supervision duties and to monitor and record (with the guidance of the class teacher) children’s development as appropriate.

 

The school encourages initiative, and endeavours to provide ample opportunities for staff to develop their interests and utilise their personal strengths.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Be available to supervise children during ‘dropping off’ period in the morning, during lunch, morning and afternoon breaks and between 15.30 and 16.15 every afternoon. 

• Attend first aid training as necessary and administer first aid as required; 

• Accompany children to and from – and supervise children during – off site activities, e.g. games and educational trips; 

• Maintain and tidy central resource areas, e.g. staff room, store room and playground games; 

• Prepare for school events, e.g. performances and sports days; 

• Manage pupils’ lost property; 

• Clean body fluids as necessary; 

• Undertake lunchtime supervision, including road crossing of pupils, as required; 

• A class Teaching Assistant may be asked, on occasion, to cover for an absent class teacher; 

• If a Teaching Assistant takes on additional teaching duties, they will be required to report on progress, written or otherwise, as required. 

Assist teachers as follows: 

• Carry out classroom activities including hearing readers and mounting displays; 

• Work with individuals or small groups of children on key tasks, under the direction of the class teacher; 

• Prepare and clear up resources, and maintain resource areas; 

• Change children’s clothing before and after P.E., games and swimming lessons; 

• Supervise swimming lessons; 

• Undertake other such reasonable duties that may be required from time to time.
