Job overview
Futures Matter – Northwood is a new, DfE-registered independent specialist school in Birmingham for secondary-age pupils whose primary need is SEMH and ASC. We are now open and accepting placement consultations. Many of our pupils have not always had education work for them. We are building something different: a school where every young person is met exactly where they are, and where high challenge and high aspiration sit alongside a genuinely low threat, low barrier environment.
You will be working with children who have a range of diagnoses and special needs, including moderate learning difficulties, and/or autism, or social, emotional, or mental health diagnoses and challenges.
You will be part of a growing staff team who are well supported and trained to help pupils overcome barriers to learning, to identify their strengths and interests, and above all make learning fun. Time with us is precious and ultimately, pupils have little time ahead of them before reaching adulthood. We expect our pupils to be well supported to develop the skills, ambition, and resilience to succeed in a career of choice, and as successful individuals in life beyond school.
We are looking for an inspirational Teaching Assistant who is passionate about helping us create a genuinely low-barrier, high-aspiration learning environment, where school and learning become attractive and enjoyable again. Pupils will question existing views they hold about school because you have helped them to achieve something and taste success. Our staff must be eager to work creatively and flexibly to engage with pupils and ignite their enthusiasm. This will ultimately improve their attitudes, aspirations and overall outcomes.
You will be working alongside teaching staff with small class groups of up to five pupils. Sometimes you will work with one pupil as part of a group. As a Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils to develop personally, socially, emotionally and academically to secure readiness for adulthood. This will be a challenging but incredibly rewarding role and career path for the right person.
What you will get from us
School Holidays
Small class sizes of up to 5 pupils
Exciting CPD opportunities to grow in the role
Full training in behaviour management strategies
A positive school culture that places pupil and staff wellbeing at its heart
Refer a Friend Scheme reward of £100 per successful candidate
Blue Light Card
Company Pension Scheme
Induction Programme, including all statutory training, and ongoing support
Significant and exciting opportunities to develop and progress as the school and Company have exciting growth plans spanning the next few years.
Must hold right to work in the UK - no sponsorship available.
