Teaching assistant – to start as soon as possible or September 2023

We are keen to recruit a graduate teaching assistant to join our busy, happy team of staff. They could join for the rest of this summer term and continue for the whole of next academic year or join us for the year, starting in September.  Our teaching assistants work in classes across our school, supporting individual children or groups in the classroom, supervising at break and lunch times and helping teachers with preparation and administrative tasks. Our teaching assistants develop valuable and rewarding relationships with children in the school and it is definitely a varied and interesting role – no two days in our school are ever the same!

We can offer you

- happy, thriving, well-behaved and engaged children to get to know

- supportive colleagues who work closely together in a small team

- a busy school full of sport, art, music, trips and much, much more

- the opportunity to develop your team work, organisation and other work skills in an environment where you are supporting children’s learning and friendships at the same time

- the opportunity to use and develop any of your wider skills – could you support our sports teams, our choir, our music performances, arts project, science teaching, computing curriculum or something else?

- a location in Hampstead Village, close to Hampstead Heath and tube station

Several of our previous teaching assistants have gone on to undertake successful teacher training courses and we would be happy to support the right applicant to move on to the next stage of becoming a teacher.

We are looking for applicants who

- are flexible, willing to show initiative and commitment to our school, work hard and take on a range of tasks supporting both children and staff members (with full training where necessary)

- are keen to work in a busy environment full of happy children and staff

- have good communication skills and an excellent standard of spoken and written English

- are graduates (ideally) but we would also be willing to consider applications from others, for instance those about to embark on a gap year before university

- might be interested in a career in teaching and who would like to gain valuable experience in a school before making a decision or those who want to apply for teacher training in the following year

Hours: 8.30am – 3.30pm Monday to Friday, term time only

Pay: £22,000 approx annual salary (this is still subject to agreement of cost of living increases)

Contract: Fixed term contract from the agreed start date until the end of July 2024

Safeguarding: All appointments will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and other pre-employment checks. An online screening check of publicly-available information will take place for all candidates before interview to assess candidates’ suitability to work with children.

How to apply

If you are interested, please visit our website (www.christchurchschool.co.uk) and download the application form from the vacancies page. We will interview suitable candidates as soon as we receive applications over the coming weeks.

We think we have an enormous amount to offer to new graduates who are looking for work over next academic year and so we would love to hear from you!
