Job overview

TEACHING ASSISTANTS

Grade 5, 30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time plus inset days)

Salary £13,353 - £15,074 per annum

The Whitby High School is a highly successful 11-18 foundation school with 1600 students on roll including a thriving sixth form.  This popular, over subscribed school places the achievement of all learners as priority and as a result academic standards are high.

Governors wish to appoint enthusiastic and highly motivated Teaching Assistants to work with students and have the ability to inspire them in their learning.  This is an exciting time for the department, which is under new leadership and is a highly regarded department in the school.

Duties involve supporting groups of students or 1:1 with students with recognised special educational needs, in a classroom setting under the direction of the teacher and delivering personal intervention programmes.  Experience of supporting core subjects would be preferable, as would the ability to work 1:1 with ASC students. This post is initially for one year subject to review. The successful candidate is expected to be confident in having sufficient knowledge to move students forward with their learning at an appropriate level. We are looking for someone who is able to demonstrate excellent classroom practice in a supportive role as an outstanding practitioner.  Proficiency in the use of ICT to support learning and the ability to use a wide range of teaching strategies to meet the needs of all students is essential. Experience of working with students with ASC and ADHD would be an advantage.  Training will be available if required.  Applicants must have experience of an educational setting and have achieved a minimum of NVQ Level 3, or equivalent along with GCSE English and Maths or equivalent.

Closing date for the post: Noon, Friday 31st January 2020

Full details about the school and the above posts are available on the school website.

Our school community places the highest priority on keeping our children safe.  Applicants for all posts will be subject to stringent vetting and induction processes.

The Whitby High School is an equal opportunities employer.
