Hours:           Term time only, plus specified days. Monday – Friday, covering 30 hours per week

Salary:           X 25 – X30 £20,398 - £22,071 FTE, actual £12,383 - £13,398

 

Key Role Function

·        Provide support to the children in Year 3 as they transition from the Bow site to the

Cathedral site.

·        Work alongside Class teachers to support the preparation, delivery and assessment of work.

·        Provide learning support to small groups and individuals.

 

General principles

·        Ensure that the safety and welfare of young people is paramount.

·        Report any concerns about a pupil to the appropriate member of staff and safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy Safeguarding Officers.

·        Work with children effectively, flexibly and creatively.

·        Work as part of a team and communicate effectively with colleagues.

 

Personal skills and specification

·        Hold a relevant Level 3 qualification.

·        Evidence positive interaction and understanding of the needs of children.

·        Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

·        Show use of initiative and be committed to the organisation and functioning of the school.

·        Be able to work as part of a team and develop effective and supportive relationships with colleagues.

·        Plan and organise time effectively.

·        Show initiative and ability to work independently.

·        Show ability to adapt to changing routines and demands.

·        Remain calm and motivated when faced with challenging behaviours or situations.

 

Specific duties

·        To work within all of Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation’s policies and procedures.

·        Attend all timetabled activities and supervision duties.

·        Develop an understanding of the specific needs of the children and support progress.

·        Undertake activities with individuals, groups or a class of children in order to facilitate their physical, emotional and educational development within a safe learning environment.

·        Participate in all stage of the planning cycle, including lesson planning, evaluating and adjusting lessons plans by liaising with the Class teacher.

·        Organise and manage learning activities, the physical teaching space and resources in conjunction with the class teacher.

·        Complete in-class observations and assessments.

·        Provide support and assistance for children’s pastoral needs and encourage children to develop their ability to manage their social, emotional and mental health needs.

·        Establish a supportive relationship with the children and parents in order to facilitate effective communication and partnership working between home and school as appropriate.

·        Promoting and reinforcing the child’s self-esteem and encourage the child to maximise their achievement and development

·        Use behaviour management strategies, in line with school policies and procedures, which contribute to a purposeful learning environment

·        Accompany or act as a group leader on educational visits and other activities outside of the classroom, supervising children.

·        To be available for Staff training and School events as required.

·        Contribute to any other reasonable duties as directed by the Headmistress
