Chellaston Junior School first opened in 1967. It has been extended a number of times over the years to the large school you see today. The capacity of the school is 512 pupils with 128 children in each year group.

The main school building comprises of 16 classrooms, library, multi-purpose hall and a variety of ancillary spaces. We run our own kitchen which provides meals for pupils and staff at Chellaston Infant and Junior Schools. The Hub is also part of CJS. There are two teaching spaces and other rooms used for meetings and visitors; the Zone (after-school and holiday club) also meet here.

On 1 June 2021, CJS became part of the East Midlands Education Trust (EMET). Along with friends and colleagues at Homefields Primary School and Chellaston Infant School.  The East Midlands Education Trust was formed in September 2014 with a mission to raise the educational standards and improve the life chances of students within the partnership. There are currently a number of schools in our Trust representing the full age range of 3-19 along with an alternative education provider.

Acting Head Teacher: Mrs Karen Price

Chair of Governors: Mr Simon Fisher

Curriculum Intent: At Chellaston Junior School, we ask, “Why?”. Our curriculum is based upon developing enquiring minds.

Through our curriculum, we teach our pupils core knowledge, which then equips them with the ability to showcase their reasoning skills. We want our children to ask ‘why?’ and develop their independence and resilience to answer their own questions for themselves.
