The role: 

This role is essential to the support and development of our young people being successful and achieving in a safe and caring learning environment. Role holders will build a professional & trusted relationship with the young people which put their health, safety and overall development first. 

This role will include supporting our teaching staff to deliver on a daily basis a broad and balanced curriculum for our young people both on and off site. Flexibility is key in this role and may include working 1:1 with a student when required, or supporting in class working with a small group. Positive behaviour management is an important part of the role.  

Key duties:   

  • Take responsibility for Safeguarding and promoting the welfare or our young people according to the college’s policies, and discharge your duties under the Prevent agenda.  
  • Work alongside the teaching staff to support our young people in their learning, providing further explanation to individuals where needed.  
  • Support our young people to identify, meet and exceed their education targets.  
  • Implement and support positive behaviour throughout the college, adapting own behaviour and responses when required to meet individual needs.  
  • Ensure all documentation is completed correctly for recording of accidents, incidents, or health & safety as per the college’s policies.  
  • Assist the young people in attending a wide range of group activities, ensuring that their choices are respected and appropriate social interactions and friendships are encouraged  
  • Ensure that practice at all times implements and follows the young person’s Educational/Learning Approaches; Placement/Care plan; Behaviour Support plan, and Communication/Sensory strategies  

Duties will vary, you must expect to diversify and lend a hand wherever is required.

Successful candidate qualities:  

Qualifications:   

  • GCSE English and Maths qualification - minimum grade 4 or equivalent is essential

Knowledge and Experience:   

  • Experience of working in an Education setting  
  • Relevant knowledge and experience of young people within age range   
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles  
  • Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.  
  • Experience of working within an inclusive setting  

Skills:  

  • Commitment to the role and ethos of the college, the desire to put the young people first and treat them as an individual  
  • Be positive and creative in meeting the needs of young people and enhancing their outcomes  
  • Be able to work on your own as well as part of a team  
  • Work collaboratively with other Aurora team members and professionals with good interpersonal skills  
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills  
  • Competent ICT skills  
  • Able to work within the parameters of the physical demands of the job role

Our academic and vocational study programmes are designed to help every student access employment or further education, including at Aurora Boveridge College – the further education provider with whom we share our beautiful campus.

Our Facilities

Aurora Beeches is situated within the Aurora Boveridge College campus, a beautiful 50-acre site near the village of Cranborne in the Dorset countryside.

Our students enjoy access to modern, well-equipped classrooms, as well as vocational areas including a digital studio, science lab and art and design base.

Our extensive grounds include horticulture learning areas with large glasshouses, as well as motor vehicle workshops, an animal care unit and excellent sports facilities.

Our Curriculum

We offer a varied curriculum, including academic subjects such as English, maths, science, humanities, and art up to GCSE level, as well as vocational subjects including horticulture, animal care, motor vehicle engineering and digital IT.

We also offer a Forest School programme, delivered on-site in our extensive grounds.

During their time at Aurora Beeches, students have regular appointments with an independent careers advisor and plenty of opportunities to try different work options through our work-based learning programme.

Alongside working on the skills needed for employment or further study, our students also engage with our therapy team to support their long-term success and to develop essential independent living skills.

Our Outcomes

We are proud to list evidence of the progress and performance of our students (for the previous academic year) below -

· 100% of students who took A-level Chemistry achieved A* 

· 100% of students who took A-level Mathematics achieved A* 

· 100% of students who took GCSE Geography achieved grade 6 

· 100% of students who took GCSE History achieved grade 5 

· 67% of students who took GCSE English Language achieved grade 5 or higher 

· 100% of students achieved Level 3 Practical Horticultural Skills 

· 100% of students achieved Entry Level Science
