Teaching Assistant – Aurora Beeches School

Location: Cranborne, Dorset 

Hourly Rate: £11.72 - £12.78 per hour

Annual Salary: £20,941.30 - £22,835.30 actual salary (FTE £24,378 - £26,582)

Contract: permanent, 40 hours per week, term time only

 

At Aurora Beeches in Cranbourne, we believe in giving young people, ages 11-16, the tools and opportunities to create the lives they want for themselves. With high-quality teaching, an excellent level of individual support and a range of expert-led, integrated therapy, we support all our young people with a range of needs including Autism and other associated conditions. We can take advantage of our beautiful setting to inspire and create fun experiences to enhance learning and progress.

The role of a Teaching Assistant is essential to the support and development of our young people being successful and achieving in a safe and caring learning environment.

Positive role modelling and flexibility is key in this role, including 1:1 support in both an academic and vocational setting such as Bushcraft, animal care and life skills.

Key duties:

  • Working alongside the teaching staff to support learning and provide further explanation to young people where needed.
  • Taking responsibility for Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our young people at all times
  • Supporting our young people to identify, meet and exceed their Education and Healthcare plan targets.
  • Implementing and supporting positive behaviour throughout the school, adapting own behaviour and responses when required to meet individual needs.
  • Ensuring all accidents, incidents, or health & safety documentation is accurately recorded as per the school’s policies.
  • Assisting our young people in attending a wide range of group activities, ensuring that choices are respected, with appropriate social interactions and friendships encouraged.

Skills and Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications:

Whilst previous experience isn’t essential; the ability and desire to build a professional & trusted relationship with our young people is.

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

  • The ability to manage a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.
  • A desire to put young people first and treat them as individuals.
  • Able to be positive and creative in meeting the needs of young people and enhancing their outcomes.
  • Able to work collaboratively with good interpersonal skills.
  • Good numeracy, literacy and ICT skills.
  • Able to work within the parameters of the physical demands of the job role.


Qualifications: 

  • GCSE English and Maths qualification - minimum grade 4 or equivalent is beneficial

At Aurora Beeches, we support young people to make choices about their own futures.

We provide high levels of personalised support to help our students to make positive life decisions, work towards gaining qualifications and employability skills for their chosen careers and learn independent ‘preparation for life’ skills.

Our academic and vocational study programmes are designed to help every student access employment or further education, including at Aurora Boveridge College – the further education provider with whom we share our beautiful campus.

Our Facilities

Aurora Beeches is situated within the Aurora Boveridge College campus, a beautiful 50-acre site near the village of Cranborne in the Dorset countryside.

Our students enjoy access to modern, well-equipped classrooms, as well as vocational areas including a digital studio, science lab and art and design base.

Our extensive grounds include horticulture learning areas with large glasshouses, as well as motor vehicle workshops, an animal care unit and excellent sports facilities.

Our Curriculum

We offer a varied curriculum, including academic subjects such as English, maths, science, humanities, and art up to GCSE level, as well as vocational subjects including horticulture, animal care, motor vehicle engineering and digital IT.

We also offer a Forest School programme, delivered on-site in our extensive grounds.

During their time at Aurora Beeches, students have regular appointments with an independent careers advisor and plenty of opportunities to try different work options through our work-based learning programme.

Alongside working on the skills needed for employment or further study, our students also engage with our therapy team to support their long-term success and to develop essential independent living skills.

Our Outcomes

We are proud to list evidence of the progress and performance of our students (for the previous academic year) below -

· 100% of students who took A-level Chemistry achieved A* 

· 100% of students who took A-level Mathematics achieved A* 

· 100% of students who took GCSE Geography achieved grade 6 

· 100% of students who took GCSE History achieved grade 5 

· 67% of students who took GCSE English Language achieved grade 5 or higher 

· 100% of students achieved Level 3 Practical Horticultural Skills 

· 100% of students achieved Entry Level Science
