Candidate Requirements
***Native-level English proficiency
***Current residency in Japan with a valid working visa
***A degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary, MS, or a related field (preferred)
***Relevant experience working in a kindergarten, preschool, or nursery school

Skills and Qualifications:

GENERAL TAX NOTES:
*Resident tax is not applied in the first year.
*Deductions of the social insurance premiums will start from the second month of your salary payments.

TAX SPECIFICS:
*Income tax and resident tax, together, typically account for:
-----Income tax: Around 5% of your salary per month. (depending on your taxable income)
-----Resident tax: Around 10% of your salary per month but you will start to pay it from next year June. These percentages are general estimates.
*Social Insurance (HI, NC, EP, WC)
-----15% to 18% of your salary is typically deducted for social insurance (for employees). This is your half of the total contribution; the total cost is around 30% to 35%, with TYIS paying the other half.

BENEFITS/DETAILS:
-Company Insurance: Coverage is for Health, Dental, and Pharmacy. Roughly, it is an 80/20 shared pay system where insurance covers 80% and 20% is covered by the user.
-Paid time off-Winter vacation, Spring break, summer vacation
-Children: Attend TYIS for free except for ancillary fees (if needed- bus, uniform, etc).
-Overtime: There are opportunities for overtime, but they must be approved.
-Seasonal work: There are opportunities for additional pay for teaching during seasonal breaks.
-Paid leave:
Starts at 10 days per year and goes up gradually. There are roughly 3 months of seasonal breaks where you are not required to be on campus.
-Local transportation:
During the school year, daily commuting expenses are covered (i.e., train or bus).
------Detailed description- Transportation allowance is meant to cover your daily commute between your registered address and the school. You will receive the exact amount that you used for commuting or to purchase your commuter pass for the duration of the school term.
-Opportunities for additional pay: Seasonal programs (Winter/Fall/Summer)
-General Relocation Allowance (GRE):
(Outside of Japan) 200,000 yen (by receipt only)
-----GRE details ----A relocation allowance of 200,000JPY is available. This is meant to be used towards flights, hotels, initial furniture or appliance shopping, etc. However, this allowance system is by way of reimbursement of receipts up to 200,000 JPY, not a cash payment.

Here is some additional information about Tokyo/TYIS (rough estimates) to help guide your decision:
-1US $ is about ¥143 (based on current rates).
-In Tokyo, the housing fee (apartment--hostel is much cheaper) is about ¥80,000 to 130,000 per month, depending on how much square footage, and it is cheaper if you are a few stations away from school.
-The cost of lunch is about ¥800 to ¥1,100 if you go to a restaurant or less if you get a lunch box near our school (you can also get lunch at school for less).
-Dinner is about ¥2,000 to ¥4,000 (for two).
-Tokyo YMCA has a campsite at Yamanaka (near Mt.Fuji), where we take a trip in the fall (Mt Fuji) and a ski trip in the winter.
