About The Westgate School

As a thriving and very successful learning community, The Westgate continues to build on its history of academic excellence and outstanding individual pupil progress. Along side this we develop confident, resourceful individuals high in self esteem. Exemplary pastoral care is something we pride ourselves on. We are proud that The Westgate is a happy school where pupils and teachers enjoy learning together. A talented team of colleagues year on year provide all pupils with the best possible opportunities in a range of subject areas - both inside and outside of the classroom. Working in partnership with parents and the local community is important to us. Supporting our curriculum provision is a comprehensive extra curricular and enrichment programme; pupils are encouraged to attend a wide range of field trips, educational visits and after school clubs. We have a proud tradition in musical, sporting and performing arts enrichment which we celebrate in our school.

We are pleased and excited to have become Hampshire’s first 4-16 all through school. At The Westgate, we enjoy working closely with our partner primary schools and consider a change of status to be a superb opportunity to strengthen our links to an even greater extent. We already take opportunities to share expertise in teaching and learning, enabling us to ensure that pupils joining our school experience a smooth transition from Year 6 to Year 7 that builds on their success. Moreover, the development of our own Lower School means that we can work in closer partnership with our local primary schools, providing specialist teaching in subjects such as Modern Foreign Languages and Physical Education.

The Westgate Nursery marks the beginning of the Early Years Foundation Stage and we are proud of the high quality provision that children experience in this fantastic setting. Led by a talented team and supported by specialist teachers, your child will experience a rich learning environment in The Westgate Nursery, providing a solid foundation for future learning. We are a reflective school and constantly review our practice to ensure further improvement. Collaboration with parents, learning together to ensure every pupil in our care reaches their full potential, is highly valued and a hallmark of The Westgate.
