Beatrice Tate School is an 'outstanding' secondary special school in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets for students aged 11 to 19 with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). A significant proportion of our learners have additional sensory and physical impairments.

The school is located 5 minutes walk from Mile End Underground station served by the Central, District and Hammersmith and City lines. The Elizabeth Line is located at Whitechapel, 10 minutes by District and Hammersmith and City Lines.

We are seeking to appoint energetic Teaching Assistants/Learning Support Assistants who want to make a difference to the lives of young people with learning difficulties.

Experience of working in a special school is not essential but knowledge and expertise of special educational needs and disabilities is desired. 

You will be joining an 'outstanding school' (Ofsted May 2021) with an innovative and committed teaching and support team.

In the role, you would:  

  • work with individual students and groups, under the direction of the class teacher, introducing tasks, monitoring student’s work and using a range of strategies to support their learning.
  • assist students to access the curriculum, and at the same time promoting independent learning.
  • observe student performance, and using the systems in place in the school/class, provide the teacher with feedback on learners' progress and help to maintain individual and group records.
  • contribute to the planning and evaluation of learning activities for individuals and groups, liaising with and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • help prepare and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment for learning.
  • provide care with regard to the health and medical needs of students.
