Job overview
Churwell Primary Academy is a welcoming and inclusive academy which aims to provide an education of the highest quality.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly and caring Teaching Assistant to work initially in the Early Years, but experience across the primary age range is desirable to meet the needs of the role. We are looking for someone who can provide:
Whole class and small group support
Timetabled support for children with specific SEND/SEMH needs
Delivering in class support and small group/1:1 interventions
Working as part of the wider team across the academy
The successful candidate will be determined to help children achieve their full potential from whatever their starting point is.
You will have strong English and Maths skills (GCSE grade A* - C / 4 - 9 or equivalent) along with good organisational abilities. Being able to work as part of a team and with your own initiative is essential. An understanding and caring nature is required to support groups of children to develop and progress from varied starting points.
Churwell is a large, vibrant and successful primary academy with around 490 pupils from Nursery to Year 6. At Churwell we have high expectations of achievement and believe in providing all children with the skills for lifelong learning through engaging them in a rich, challenging curriculum within a shared culture of belonging to an academy community and mutual respect. At Churwell Primary, families share in their child’s learning and successes. We expect our children to grow into successful and responsible young people who make a positive contribution to their academy and the wider community. We have great children who are keen to learn, and an excellent team of colleagues who go the extra mile, are innovative and supportive, and place the children at the heart of everything that they do. We work hard to ensure that we support our children to become independent, motivated, confident individuals who come to Churwell to learn, aspire and achieve.
We are proud to have joined Resilience Multi Academy Trust which has a reputation for high expectations for all, an innovative curriculum and excellent staff/student relationships. It is regarded as one of the most successful Trusts in the country and is recognised as an organisation that does things differently. Our academies are places where colleagues can develop their skills and find their own style and methods of teaching. Colleagues learn and grow alongside our students and feel that they are making a real difference to the lives of those they teach. We believe that traditional values of discipline and respect are sacrosanct. We do not tolerate bullying, defiance or rudeness, and this has made for a harmonious and safe learning environment for our young people and a supportive environment for staff.
The successful candidate will enjoy access to high quality CPD. You will also be joining a happy Trust where 95% of colleagues agreed that they enjoy working here and 92% would recommend us to a friend or colleague (taken from staff wellbeing survey). Our commitment to staff wellbeing means we prioritise staff mental health, drive down unnecessary workload and support our colleagues to progress in their careers.
This role provides a real opportunity for you to make your mark, and as a growing Trust with an excellent reputation and access to high-quality CPD for all, there are always opportunities for career development
Candidates who wish to visit the academy may do so on either 23 or 30 September. Please email the school office at office@churwellprimary.org.uk or call on 0113 2527437 to let us know if you will be visiting.
The closing date for applications is Wednesday 30 September 2026 at midday.
Interviews will be held on Friday 2nd October
