Progression House is recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join our Education team now! We are looking for versatile, resilient and committed Teaching Assistants, who can adapt their practice wherever necessary to support across all key stages. The successful candidate will work alongside the class teacher, assisting the children with their work and supporting with pupil behaviour while establishing good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and responding to individual needs.

Progression House provides specialist education for young people aged 16-19 with high functioning autism. Pupils may also have challenging behaviour as a result of their communication difficulties and a lack of social understanding. 

Many of our students have come to Progression House after attending our schools that provide specialist support for children on the autistic spectrum; a big part of our role is to support the students with the transition into mainstream college. 

Under direction of the Head of School, you will work mainly 1:1 with our students, with emphasis on supporting their college placement by interpreting information and presenting this in an ASD friendly format. You will provide college support in terms of staying on task, keeping track of assignments, recording progress and interventions, but also develop strategies for independent living, community and work experience. 

You will have the ability to support our students’ academic learning in an autism friendly way, as well as supporting wider behavioural and emotional needs.

You will also:

•   Share our passion for high aspiration and achievement for all

•   Have excellent interpersonal skills

•   Hold a full, clean driving licence and be a confident driver in order to transport students to/from college. Ideally you will have access to your own vehicle in order to transport students to college, however school vehicles are also available

•   Be highly organised and adaptable.

The following skills would also be of benefit to the role:

•   A good knowledge of autism and/or experience of working with young people on the autistic spectrum.

You will be required to support students at college which may involve working/travelling outside normal working hours, so flexibility is also important to this role.

The successful candidate will have previous experience supporting in a classroom setting, have a Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) which is appropriate to the teaching and learning environment of learners and young adults, along with the following characteristics:
