Cromwell High School is a specialist high school for pupils aged 11 to 19 who have severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple disabilities, complex autism and communication needs. Due to an increase in pupil numbers, we have a number of exciting opportunities across school in a variety of roles.

The successful applicants will be part of a dedicated school team working with teaching staff and teaching assistants in providing guidance, support and education for pupils. This may include, support in lessons, personal care, therapy and communication programmes within both small group and individual situations. All applicants should be willing to work with any class throughout the school.

We recently joined Kingfisher Learning Trust, a values driven multi-academy trust based in Oldham which currently has six schools within it; a mix of mainstream and special primaries and Cromwell as the only specialist secondary provision at present. As a member of Kingfisher Learning Trust, we benefit from a range of continuing professional development opportunities across all the schools and collaborative, partnership working is a strength. In joining Cromwell, you will also be joining a growing, person-centred trust with the many opportunities this brings.

We are seeking to employ positive, enthusiastic people whose personal attributes will contribute to a team of staff fully committed to ‘going the extra mile’ for our pupils’ needs. It is essential that the successful applicants will have experience in either a paid, voluntary or in a personal capacity, and be able to demonstrate:

  1. Performing a caring/supportive role alongside supporting learning
  2. The physical ability to continue to support secondary aged pupils through periods of challenging behaviour strictly following the principles and procedures of the school’s training programme (which prioritises avoidance of this need)
  3. Successful experience of team work.

Experience of working in an educational environment and/or with people with learning difficulties is desirable but not essential. See the job description and personal specification to understand the precise requirements for this post. Please note that Cromwell High School has the highest standards of child protection and that this post is exempt from Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) Order 1975 and all candidates will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
