A helping hand from you. A head start for them.
We want all our young people to have the best chance of success in life. To make sure that’s the case, you’ll give them extra help when they’re in the classroom. The right support can really make an enormous difference. As a Teaching Assistant, you have to be understanding and be committed. That’s because the young people in our schools have social, emotional, mental health and complex learning needs that call for extra dedication. Help them progress and you’ll have every opportunity to do the same with your career.
As a Teaching Assistant at Hall Cliffe Primary School, you’ll be working directly with young people in the classroom every day. You’ll be supporting them to learn, providing feedback to help them improve their learning and helping to support their emotional needs. You’ll need to be very resilient and dedicated to the wellbeing of our young people. Your support can be invaluable to teachers and young people, which means it’s very rewarding.
Key to this role is being able to foster strong, trusting relationships and being able to truly understand and accept the needs behind the big behaviours. Our children can be physical and verbally aggressive. You will need to be able to have unconditional positive regard and be incredibly resilience, having an ability to bounce back time and time again. Our children need staff who understand the importance of connection before correction and understand and believe in a trauma informed approach. You will be able to make learning fun, active and hands on.
You must be computer literate as we use a range of databases and ICT. You must have good levels of literacy as you will be writing records, key worker sessions, feedback in children’s book and communicating with parents/carers and other outside agencies.
You must have good subject knowledge of what children will learn within the National Curriculum up to year 6.
Our children demand a special kind of empathy, warmth and skill, it’s not your average TA role, but you’ll always have the very best resources at your disposal, so you can focus on inspiring each and every one of your pupils. It will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure, but you can expect to take home a sense of having done something amazing every single day. You will join our staff team of real life superheroes who are genuinely changing lives. You’ll work as part of a collaborative team, not just with other education and pastoral staff in the school and across the Group but with our in-house Education Psychologists, Assistant Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist and Mental Health Practitioners. All pulling together to ensure the best possible outcomes are achieved, ensuring that we prepare children for their next stages of life
As an experienced Teaching Assistant already, you should be used to life in the classroom and up to date with welfare and safeguarding practices within Education. You’ll have good understand of adverse childhood experiences and how to work within a trauma informed approach. You’ll also need to be qualified to at least NVQ level 2 (or equivalent), but what we’re really looking for is the ability to connect. We need you to build great relationships with all our young people, so you can motivate them to do well and be the best that they can be. If you’re emotionally strong and good in a team, we can offer a role with exciting prospects. There are occasional meetings outside school hours, for which your attendance will be required. You must have good subject knowledge of the Primary National Curriculum and good levels of literacy. It would be ideal if you had experience of teaching children to read using ‘Read, Write Inc’ phonics programme.
