Hours: (32.5 hrs per week) Term time only. (8.30 - 3.30pm with half hour for lunch)

Chiltern Primary School is based in Hull and is part of the Yorkshire and the Humber Cooperative Learning Trust. We are a two form entry Primary Trust School with approximately 480 pupils on role ranging from 3-11 years.

The successful candidate must have a good understanding of the Primary curriculum, a positive approach to managing children’s behaviour and be fully committed to ensuring the best possible outcomes for all of our children. The candidate should have high expectations of the pupils and of themselves. In addition, we also expect excellent skills in English (written reading and spoken) Maths and other curriculum areas. 

Applicants must have excellent communication skills, be hard working, creative, enthusiastic and flexible. It would be desirable if candidates had a good understanding and experience of the teaching of phonics.  We will provide the successful candidate with a programme of training if required, to be part of a friendly dedicated team in a welcoming learning environment.

 As part of the shortlisting process, because we are unable to invite candidates into school, we will be asking shortlisted candidates to produce a video of no longer than 5 minutes of themselves reading a story suitable to share with a small group of children.  We will then shortlist again and invite successful candidates to an interview.

School details 

Chiltern Primary School is situated to the West of the City Centre. The school is very much at the heart of the community and gives a welcome to many individuals, groups and organisations. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The school has a team of very dedicated, enthusiastic and hard working staff providing many opportunities for the children to develop and achieve to their potential. A wide range of extra curricular activities are offered by the staff including ICT, football, basketball, reading, chess and singing.

Over the last year the school has been extensively remodelled and enlarged to accommodate 370 pupils and 39 FTE Nursery children. This work included the development of a purpose built foundation unit whilst major renovations were made to the main school building improving the classroom accommodation, office and staffroom. The school is very well resourced and benefits from a new library and a brand new whole school reading scheme. ICT is a significant feature of the school provision; in addition to the sixteen-station computer suite, the school has interactive whiteboards with data projectors and laptops in every classroom. The school grounds comprise of a tarmac playground with adventure play equipment installed, a playing field and a quiet paved area. The foundation unit has a dedicated play area with opportunities to develop all areas of learning.

Hull and its surrounding area is a thriving dynamic location in which to live and work. The city of Hull is undergoing significant changes, which are enhancing facilities in all parts of city life and attracting people to the area from across the region and the UK. Hull offers an excellent quality of life. Housing choices are extensive, but affordable, ranging from waterfront city apartments to large rural retreats.
