Job overview

Are you an inspiring teaching assistant looking for your next challenge?

Alder Community High School has a fantastic and rare opportunity for a highly motivated and driven individual to join our SEND support team. We would like to appoint a level 2 Teaching Assistant who is dedicated, hardworking and committed to raising standards and improving the life chances of young people. This is a challenging yet incredibly rewarding role working with 11-16 students to raise standards and attainment.

We promote inclusion of all students and recognise students’ entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum whilst meeting their individual needs. We recognise that some students may require more support than others and we aim to plan accordingly. Every individual is valued, learning is enjoyed, success is celebrated, and responsibility is shared which enables our students to grow into responsible citizens who play a full and active role in society.

The post holder will work under the guidance of teaching/senior staff to provide 1 to 1 and general classroom support for students. This role may also include a wide range of duties including, supervision of students, exam invigilation, data inputting, preparation and maintenance of resources and materials, and supporting trips and activities as required.

Alder is a rewarding place to be. We have built a culture where staff feel valued and supported. We recognise the benefits of staff working in a productive, healthy, and flourishing workplace, and we work hard to ensure the wellbeing of everyone.

The successful candidate must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students. You will need to have excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with young people and their families. Your enthusiasm and proactive ‘can do’ attitude will be amongst your strengths. If this sounds like you, and you also have an organised approach to your work with meticulous attention to detail then we would love to hear from you.

This is a permanent position. The normal hours of work are 32.5 hours per week: Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 3:10pm. This includes a 40-minute unpaid break. This is a term time only post, additional holidays cannot be taken during term time. Additional hours may be required to support after school or school holidays activities. This will be paid as additional over time.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. Appointment is subject to satisfactory enhanced status checks from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Applications should be completed and submitted online via the TES portal by 9am on Friday 17th May 2024

We Are Alder

We are a community and we want all students to thrive in a happy, safe, supportive, yet challenging learning environment.

At Alder, our vision is to be outstanding in all we do. This includes students pursuing academic success and developing a set of skills which will prepare them for life beyond school. We have an ambitious academic curriculum for all students with hard work expected as standard.

We want our students to be able to form positive relationships, enrich themselves and make a valuable contribution to society.

'We Are Alder' is central to our positive ethos. Our core Alder values are evident throughout all aspects of our school.

Our Alder values aren’t simply about school – they’re about everyone, everywhere, always. They are not a temporary philosophy linked to school but a set of values to follow for life. ‘We Are Alder’ is how you get a good job or an apprenticeship, how you become a good parent, how you get promoted and how you become a good partner. It’s about success in your whole life, not just your academic life.

Our Values

We encourage our students to live by our values in all that they do.

  • Altruism – having a genuine and self-less concern for others.
  • Leadership – inspiring and empowering a community to achieve a shared vision by leading by example.
  • Diversity – celebrating, accepting and respecting that everyone is different both in school and in our community.
  • Excellence – striving to achieve your best in all that you do.
  • Resilience – turning challenges into something positive and never giving up.

Our students will receive the highest quality of teaching and we invest in our staff to realise the vision.  Our staff and their wellbeing are important and without them, our students could not flourish.

Students are at the centre of everything we do and increasing their life chances is our primary goal.  We want our students to leave Alder as well-rounded human beings, work/college ready and able to take their place in society to contribute, enjoy life and be able to improve their own lives and the lives of others.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.
