Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic person who would like to join our friendly and hardworking team as a teaching assistant. This post would suit someone who has experience working with children as a teaching assistant or someone undertaking a teaching and learning degree or an apprenticeship as a teaching assistant. The post is full time but will accommodate any requirements for release if studying. West Town Primary Academy is a vibrant and happy place to work where all the staff are dedicated to supporting our fantastic and eager to learn children. 


The ideal candidate will be able to work under the direction of the class teacher and SENDco to:

• Work one to one with a child who has a visual impairment and supports this child to access the curriculum through modifications and use of assistive technology – iPad pro

• Work with small groups of children to support their learning and deliver set interventions as required 

• Deliver specific one to one, or one to two sessions with children to help them progress through their bespoke programmes of study

• Support in the delivery of after school reading provision

• Contribute to the wider life of the academy


We are looking for someone who:

• Is committed to helping children succeed

• Has a good understanding of how to support children with additional needs including SEND and EAL

• May have had the experience of supporting a pupil with a sensory impairment, i.e., a vision impairment 

• Has some experience in using assistive technology (iPad pro) to support pupils and/or is willing to learn

• Is kind friendly and understanding

• Can see where and how they can help children make their next steps

• Will commit time and enthusiasm to our team

• Can act on their initiative 

• Can form positive and caring relationships with children which motivates them to learn, grow and be confident

• Demonstrates excellent classroom practice with high standards of teaching and learning

• Is a good team player who is willing to contribute to the ethos and wider community of the academy

• Is motivated, passionate and reflective about their work
