Job overview

Term time - 20 hours per week (08.00-12.00 Monday - Friday) - 36 term time weeks per year.

St Margaret’s Prep is a co-educational day school for 180 pupils aged 2-11. Pupils can join the Bluebird Nursery from the age of two before moving into our Pre-Prep Department. Throughout Pre-Prep, there is one class per year group and once the children move into the Prep Department, there are two parallel classes. The school shares an impressive 28-acre campus and facilities with St Mary’s School, Calne.

Teaching Assistants at St Margaret’s work under the day to day supervision of class or subject teachers and are responsible for supporting them in all aspects of the academic and pastoral education provided for children of all ages. Specific roles and responsibilities will be determined by the Head of Prep School and SENDCo and may change in line with school development and pupil need. This named pupil TA role is a part time (20 hours per week) salaried position during term time, although occasional attendance for staff training and classroom preparation during the holidays is expected. Additional hours may also be available in our wrap around provision and holiday club.

This role supports a specific child (subject to annual EHCP funding). We expect this pupil to remain in the school for the next 3 academic years.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic school team to support a child with additional needs 1:1 in the Prep Departments (Key Stage 2), to access the curriculum and develop their social interaction, speech and language skills and independence.

About St Margaret's Prep School, Calne

St Margaret's  Prep is a thriving independent day school for boys and girls aged 2-11 which was established in 1873. We moved to our current premises in 1940 and have gradually grown to what we are today – a happy and vibrant school of around 180 pupils with broadly equal numbers of boys and girls.

At St Margaret’s, we believe our duty is to prepare the children in our care to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world; to equip them with the life skills and attributes that will allow them to flourish in their senior schools and beyond.

We offer a holistic and balanced education, with strong values at its heart. These values provide a framework for our children as they interact with one another, experiencing the challenges and achievements of their educational journey with us. Our aim of ‘Inspiring Excellence’ is central to our commitment to ensure that each pupil aspires to fulfil his or her potential.

There is one class per year in Pre-Prep (KS1 including Kindergarten) and 2 per year in Prep (KS2). The school shares an impressive 27-acre campus and facilities with St Mary’s School, Calne.

The facilities offer first class opportunities to challenge and stimulate the children in their learning. Classes are housed in attractive purpose-built teaching rooms linked to the original Victorian building. There are specialist teaching rooms for Computing, Music, Languages and Art/Design & Technology, whilst The Southwell Hall offers a large space for assemblies, drama and a wide range of extra-curricular activities. In addition, we share a number of facilities with St Mary’s; a dining room, Chapel, science laboratories, a 25m indoor swimming pool, sport hall and a range of sports courts and playing fields

Our wraparound care provision offers a Breakfast Club from 7.30am-8.15am and at the end of the day our After-school Club is open from 4.00pm-6.00pm. The children enjoy the benefit of fresh air and exercise in an extensive, secure environment which includes fields, playgrounds, swings and other play equipment.

Education at St Margaret’s is not just about academic rigour, it’s also about respect and understanding for each other and giving our pupils the tools to understand themselves. Throughout their time at school we see our children grow in independence, self-esteem and confidence as they learn key ‘soft skills’. We all work towards ensuring that firm foundations are laid before the children move on to senior school and face the challenges that the workplace and wider world will present in the future.
