Job overview
The Role: More Than Just a Classroom
At Sapling Green, we don’t do "standard." Our school is located on a working Christmas tree farm and smallholding, providing a therapeutic and hands-on learning environment for students with diverse SEN needs.
We are looking for a versatile Teaching Assistant who is happy to work across our Primary or Secondary phases. One day you might be supporting a younger child with literacy through nature-tracking; the next, you might be helping a teenager manage their emotions while they learn to prune Norway Spruces.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Bridging the Gap: Providing 1:1 or small group support to students with a variety of needs (ASC, SEMH, MLD), helping them access the curriculum—whether that’s AQA basics or sensory-based play.
• Outdoor Education: Assisting in our "outdoor classrooms"—the farm and smallholding. You’ll be helping students care for animals and manage the seasonal cycles of the tree farm.
• Emotional Anchor: Acting as a calm, consistent presence for students who find traditional school environments challenging.
• The "Wellies-On" Factor: Being ready to jump from a classroom desk to a muddy paddock at a moment’s notice.
Who You Are
· Adaptable: You are happy working with both our younger primary learners and our secondary students. You can pivot your style to suit the age and need.
· Resilient: You aren't afraid of a bit of rain or a difficult conversation. You understand that "behaviour is communication" and stay calm under pressure.
· SEN Passionate: You have experience (or a massive desire to learn) in supporting neurodivergent learners.
· Naturally Curious: You’re interested in the farm environment and are happy to learn alongside the students.
· Outdoor Enthusiast (Bonus): Have you worked in a Forest School setting before? If you hold a Level 1 or 2 Forest School qualification (or simply have a passion for outdoor learning), you’ll find yourself right at home in our "green" classrooms.
Why Sapling Green?
• The Environment: Swap the stuffy staffroom for 360-degree views of greenery and fresh air.
• Growth: We invest in our staff. Whether you want to specialise in SEN interventions or outdoor learning, we’ll support your CPD.
• A Small-Knit Team: Join a community that values every member of staff as a vital part of our students' success.
• Unique Perks: Fresh air, manageable class sizes, and a workplace that smells like Christmas all year round!
