Chobham Academy opened in September 2013 after joining the highly successful group of Harris academies. This 3-18 academy is a world class educational legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Situated within the new East Village complex, the academy serves the community to be established in 2,800 new homes, along with existing communities in Newham, Waltham Forest and nearby London boroughs.

We are looking for graduate Teaching Assistants who are passionate about education and have a flair for working with young people across all age groups in Secondary education. Candidates should be recent university graduates of core subjects who would be interested to gain classroom experience as a Teaching Assistant, or those looking to start a career path in teaching.

Working as part of a highly experienced, collaborative and talented team, your role will be to provide support for students, some with disabilities and learning difficulties, in a classroom environment or on a 1:1/small groups tuition basis. You will be encouraging and supporting individual pupils to reach their full potential, whilst demonstrating a creative and determined attitude that will help motivate students. You will be directly supporting the students with their Mathematics, Science or English, as well as helping to organise the teaching and learning resources available to students and staff.

What we are looking for:

  • The ability to interest, encourage, motivate and engage students
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • The ability to work well as part of a team

You may be required to work in the alternative Resource Unit or within the mainstream classes. Working in the Alternative Resource Provision requires experience and training in working with ASD Students.

Why work at Chobham Academy?

  • An ethos of aspiration, ambition and high achievement for all
  • Specialisms in Performing Arts and English with a focus on sports excellence, and with world-class facilities for learning, leisure and sport
  • A dynamic centre of learning and the hub of the community
  • Exceptional opportunities for personal and professional development as part of the Harris Federation; many of our teaching assistants have gone on to teacher training as part of our School Direct programme
  • Generous Harris benefits and rewards package

For more information, please download the Candidate Information Pack above or contact the academy on 0203 747 6060.

Applications are also welcomed from experienced teaching assistants interested to train as a teacher through our Harris School Direct Programme: more information is available here think-train-to-teach.

We have taken an innovative approach to our recruitment, by using the power of video. As part of our recruitment process, we may ask you to complete a quick video assessment, giving you a unique opportunity to articulate your application, showcase your personality and tell us why you are interested in this next challenge. We use this alongside your online application form when shortlisting for interview.
