About Us 

Clyst Vale is a thriving and vibrant 11- 18 Community College situated five miles from Exeter. Visitors to Clyst Vale usually comment on the friendly, orderly atmosphere, the courtesy of our students, and the purposefulness in lessons. We have clear expectations and systems, but far more important are the excellent working relationships we establish between staff and students, as well as staff and parents. We remain the only Secondary school in Devon to be accredited Silver Rights Respecting School status.

Pastoral care is an acknowledged strength of the school. All staff at the College are responsible for pastoral care, led by the Deputy Principal, with specific Pastoral responsibilities.

The Role

Working 1050 hours over 39 weeks of term time, you will work under the instruction and guidance of the Skills Room Manager and senior staff.

Undertaking work and support programmes, to enable students with emotional, social and behavioural challenges to access learning, and to assist the teacher in the management of students and the classroom. Work may be carried out in the classroom or may regularly take place outside the main teaching area.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual who can act as a role model to students and build relationships quickly, whilst maintaining a professional approach. Experience of working with young people will be an advantage, but full training will be given.

About you

To be considered as our new Skills Room Teaching Assistant you must have:

• Excellent communication skills

• Great empathy and the ability to build positive relationships students who face challenges

• A resilient personality

• The confidence to handle difficult situations and manage de-escalations

• The ability to liaise with teachers, other members of staff, and parents where required

Clyst Vale Community College is a mixed, non-denominational academy secondary school and sixth form for students aged 11-18. It is located in Broadclyst, near Exeter, in the county of Devon, and has about 900 pupils.

The academy is operated by the Clyst Vale Academy Trust and is specialist in science, maths and ICT.
