Job overview

Required from March 2020 onwards.

This is an exciting time to be joining Newcastle Academy, as we continue to develop our SEN provision. We need an enthusiastic Teaching Assistant who can support our students and teaching staff on our journey of improvement.

Ofsted (November 2019) state “Staff support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) well. Teachers take pupils’ needs into account when planning learning. Teaching assistants provide the right support in class when pupils need it.” The successful applicant will be able to support our students in the classroom and in smaller groups. The role will also include providing confidential pastoral support and liaising with external partner agencies, as well as working closely with parents, so good relationship, listening and communication skills are essential.

We believe staff development is a key aspect in raising standards for our students, and you will therefore be supported with a personalised CPD programme and opportunities to achieve your ambitions. You will benefit from a supportive and challenging leadership, which empowers you to develop your own skills.

Based at Newcastle Academy - this is a term time contract plus 6 INSET days

Applications for part time and full-time hours (37 hours per week) will be considered.

Newcastle Academy in October 2015 converted to become an academy within the  United Endeavour Trust. Our external Trust Partners include Keele University, Newcastle-under-Lyme College and Stoke City Community Trust, and we are actively looking to expand under the leadership of our Chief Executive Officer and MAT Board.

This close collaboration ensures we can offer staff and students much more than any single school: expanded choices and cross federation courses at Key Stage 4, additional extra-curricular provision and enrichment activities, access to training support and further opportunities and more specialist facilities.

We believe this collaborative approach supports staff in aspiring to our ambitious plans for the future. Students are exposed to wider experiences and staff have stronger networks. Best practice and new initiatives are communicated within the federation, and some of the challenges faced by DfE changes to curriculum and accountability can be addressed through internal systems and mutual working.
