Sale Grammar School is an 11-18 coeducational, selective Grammar school, situated in the borough of Trafford. The school became a single academy trust in 2011. There are over 1300 students on roll including a large sixth form with over 380 students in it. The majority of students join the school in Year 7 and complete their education at Sale Grammar School, although the school does welcome approximately 50 students into its sixth form each year. Although the school did not apply to the Selective Schools Expansion Fund, its admissions criteria does give a higher priority to students who are in receipt of Pupil Premium and is also involved in The Sutton Trust’s Fair School Admissions Pledge.
The school has over 110 staff, over 80 of whom are Teaching staff. There is a strong middle management layer across the school and opportunities for progression for both Teaching and Support staff. The school invests in high quality CPD opportunities for all staff and also encourages its staff to contribute to the wider educational landscape. The school is a Lead School for the Manchester Metropolitan University ITT Provision, and as such, trainee teachers are welcomed into the school each year and supported to develop their skills. In addition, the school also has strong support in place for those Early Career Teachers who join, and feedback from these staff indicate that they feel well-supported whilst also having a variety of opportunities to progress within their career.
The school is ambitious for its students, providing them with the opportunities that we believe will allow students to achieve academic excellence in a positive community that engenders respect and engagement and supports personal development. The school has three core values of: Aspire, Act, Achieve and six whole school virtues of Respect, Perseverance, Community, Curiosity, Creativity and Kindness. These reflect the implementation of the values in action.
Sale Grammar School has always focused on providing its students with an excellent curriculum which encompasses a rich set of experiences that seek to promote academic excellence, whilst also supporting the personal development of our students. Through these experiences the school aims to both inspire and nurture a curiosity for learning and provide students with opportunities and both the skills and qualifications which they will need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
The curriculum is diverse and focuses on six strands which include:
· A wide-ranging curriculum offer
· A commitment to clubs and enrichment activities
· A range of Student Leadership opportunities
· A strong personal development, health and well-being offer
· A careers education and guidance offer
· A range of opportunities to contribute to the wider community.
Behaviour across the school is excellent with students demonstrating real care and respect for others. There is bespoke support for students who may require this, and the school also has a separate SEND Hub to support students who may have additional needs. The school works in partnership with parents/carers and regularly offers additional sessions for parents around the areas of personal development, mental health and wellbeing.
The school was last inspected in 2022 and a copy of the report can be found on the school’s website. There has been a significant investment in facilities in recent years which has resulted in the school enjoying a bright modern and well-equipped campus.
