OUR SCHOOL This is an exciting time to join The Charles Dickens School as it joins the Barton
Court Academy Trust (BCAT) working in partnership with Barton Court Grammar School
Academy, an outstanding co-educational grammar school in Canterbury. This new venture will
see The Charles Dickens students and staff benefit from outstanding leadership and the sharing

THE POST We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and pro-active Specialist Teaching
Assistant to support a visually impaired student in the School for the duration of his time with us.
Candidates should be degree educated and have at least 2 years experience working with VI
students and be proficient in reading/writing in Braille and be familiar with Braille equipment.
Candidates should be motivated, approachable, non-judgemental and experienced in helping
to raise standards and achievement and will be responsible to the SENCO.
Hours of work are 08.30-15.30 Mon-Fri including 60 minutes unpaid lunch break.
Following the proposed restructure we anticipate the terms and
conditions for this post will change and the salary will be
amended to £16,968-£17,827pa (pro rata £11,383pa)

About The Charles Dickens School
The Charles Dickens School is a mixed secondary school for students aged 11-18, located in Broadstairs, Kent. There are nearly 1,200 students in attendance, and around 50 enrolled in the sixth form. The school has a supportive and active parents and friends association, to which all parents are subscribed automatically.
The school opened its own sixth form in 2013 to encourage students to study for two further years. The Charles Dickens School prides itself on being an integral part of the local community. It organises a number of work-related placements and charity fundraising. It also offers pupils the chance to attend international educational visits.
