Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a resourceful, enthusiastic and self-motivated Teaching Assistant. The candidate should ideally have experience of working in a school environment supporting classes with an enthusiasm for improving children’s learning. We would like someone with a patient and compassionate nature and sense of humour and the ability to work within a wonderfully happy environment.

Pennthorpe has a dedicated Pre-Prep building where each of the Pre-Prep classrooms (from Nursery to Year 2) faces the woods with a wall of bi-fold glass doors that open to an outdoor play area. There is no denying the view is wonderful – and there is a real sense of nature being brought inside.

Learning is all classroom led in the Pre-Prep, with specialist teachers for subjects like Music, Art, Drama, Languages, Games and Sport. This, together with our exceptional and dynamic team of dedicated teaching support staff, means our children receive incredible teaching and care each day, as well as having a whole lot of fun!

To apply, please visit our website here or contact Tilly Strong for further information on 01403 822391. Interviews will be taking place in the week commencing 27th February 2023.

Pennthorpe is a co-educational independent preparatory day school located in the village of Rudgwick, along the Surrey/Sussex border, for children ages 2 to 13 years. Pennthorpe sits within a beautiful 25-acre site with extensive facilities and 16 acres of luscious woodland.

Pennthorpe is renowned for an innovative curriculum, exceptional pastoral care, immaculate, child-friendly campus and exceptional record for Scholarships and Common Entrance results. “Non nobis solum nati” is Pennthorpe’s official motto: “Born not for ourselves alone”. The ‘Pennthorpe Purpose’ relays the importance of positive contribution to the lives, and for the benefit, of others - not just to serve our own intentions. The children enjoy the most compelling educational experience possible; to nurture their positivity, tolerance, resilience and collaboration; and to prepare them to pursue their individual aspirations and contribute to the world.

Whether it’s academic achievement, consideration and kindness towards others, or an energetic and positive attitude – excellence underpins all that we do at Pennthorpe, and all that we strive to be together. Pennthorpe has been successfully preparing children for a variety of public senior schools since 1930.
