Abingdon House School (AHS) comprises the Prep School (located in South Kensington) and the Senior School (located in Marylebone). AHS caters for pupils aged 5-19 with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADD/ADHD, autistic spectrum condition, social communication difficulties and other associated needs.
Job Description - General
Teaching Assistants (TAs) will provide support to a class of up to twelve pupils. For this role the main purpose is to support the student or students to access the teaching and learning provided and to assist the Classroom Teacher and Therapists in the management of the pupils and the classroom.
TAs work with both pastoral and academic staff to enhance and enrich the learning experience of the pupils. The context for this work is varied, encompassing both the classroom and educational experiences beyond the classroom.
All TAs are encouraged and enabled to take part in additional training to become qualified in supporting the needs of learners with SpLDs.
The main duties of the TA are as follows, however the list is subject to regular alteration:
Working with Pupils
To assist pupils to access curriculum materials
To develop positive and supportive relationships with the students
To read, scribe and adapt work to enable access
To support instructions and enhance pupils understanding in the classroom setting
To promote good behaviour
To participate in target setting and monitoring
To creatively support the established learning objectives
To take initiative within the structures, policies and procedures of the school
Working with Teachers and Therapeutic Staff
To develop positive and supportive relationships with staff
To take direction and work collaboratively from the classroom teacher and therapeutic staff
To engage in creating materials
To assist in the administration and delivery of lessons
To take a role in pastoral support
To attend and participate in the registration and administration of the class
To liaise with the team of therapeutic staff
To assist in the delivery of specific programmes for pupils
To monitor and provide feedback on strategies
Reporting and Recording
To assist in the recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils
To keep accurate and up to date records
To communicate and consult with the parents of pupils
Extra-Curricular Involvement
To become involved in the full life of the school
To take on a supportive role in Wellbeing and Enrichment activities
To attend and support events and trips outside of School
Environment and Resources
To assist in the creation and maintenance of high quality displays
To assist in maintaining the resources in the learning environment
To promote good ICT skills and support the full use of our network
To participate in breakfast, lunch, break and after school supervision duties
Other
To ensure good practice at all times in relation to safeguarding pupils
To be an excellent role model and promote the ethos, vision and aims of the School
The role may include other reasonable duties as required and directed by the Headteacher.
Any assignment to a specific class or pupil is at the discretion of the Headteacher, and may be altered in order to meet the needs of the School.
