An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated support member of our team at Nansen Primary School.

This role of the Teaching Assistant – Physical Support will be to support a specific student with physical, movement and care needs daily. The successful applicant will be required to push a wheelchair, and support the daily care needs of this individual student. Therefore, good health, reliability, the ability to form positive relationships and the ability to allow the student inclusion and dignity when meeting needs are pre-requisites for the job.

The successful candidate will support the student across all subjects and aspects of the wider curriculum, including the delivery of bespoke physical fitness therapy routines, and must be trained, or willing to train, in moving and handling, and intimate care techniques.

• To provide in class support to students in receipt of a statement of special educational needs, an Education Health and Care Plan

• To work closely with pupils individually or in groups within the Special Needs Department; and to support other pupils, enabling them to achieve maximum access to and participation in the curriculum.

• Curriculum support for the teacher, including differentiating and modifying tasks to provide curriculum access, observing children’s achievements and updating records, and liaison with parents / carers.

• To give in-class support to subject teachers, thus facilitating pupils access to the curriculum including assisting teachers of practical subjects as required, with priority being given to Health and Safety.

• To help pupils develop their language and reasoning skills

• Support / supervision of named children and other children within the lesson including the development of IEPs – including meeting their medical, hygiene, eating and general welfare requirements, as necessary.

• Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required (including in-service training to be paid for as additional work at the appropriate rate).

• To ensure that the Safeguarding of Children in their care remains paramount and that both School and Birmingham Child Protection procedures are adhered to.
