The Technical Services Team
The Abbey School has its own dedicated Technical Services Team to provide technical support to the Abbey Community across all School sites and departments. The in-house Technical Services Team maintain a Microsoft based network with virtualised servers, vlans, PCs & mobile devices (currently approx. 900), remote access provision, wireless networking, telephone systems, peripherals and Audio Visual equipment. This extensive range of equipment which is continuously being updated and developed in-line with emerging technologies make this an exciting opportunity to learn and expand skills and knowledge. Job purpose
Under the guidance of the Technical Services Management the post holder will be required to provide technical support to the School staff and pupils and may also be required to provide a pro-active input to the development and delivery of this School’s ICT and audio visual strategic and operational needs.
Accountability
· The Head has overall responsibility for all employees of The Abbey School and this is delegated to Heads of Department. The Head of Finance and Resources is responsible for the management of the support staff.
· This post is within the Technical Services Team and the post holder is directly responsible to the Deputy Technical Services Manager.
· The post holder is not directly responsible for other members of staff.
All members of the Technical Services Team (as appropriate) are expected to undertake the following duties:
- Assist with the provision, maintenance and support of (but not limited to) computer workstations, servers, infrastructure, network switches, firewalls, peripherals, printer consumables, telephone systems, mobile devices, wireless networks, sound & lighting and all associated equipment, as required.
- Assist with the provision, maintenance and support of School systems including (but not limited to) email systems, MIS systems, web filtering systems, parent contact systems, anti-virus protection, CCTV software, building management software and all School software, as required.
- Promote the use of, and support all members of the Abbey Community with their use of the services supported by the Technical Services Team.
- Regular and flexible approach to working at all School sites.
- Correct use of ServiceDesk software to process and manage tickets.
- Following School policy regarding the Asset management and ensuring that equipment appropriately secured.
- Provide administrative support to the Technical Services Management as required.
- Any reasonable tasks requested by the Head of Finance and Resources or Technical Services Management.
- Participation in the School Continuous Professional Development programme, including annual review.
Specific responsibilities
· Although required to assist with any technical task, the post-holder is expected to focus on level 2/3 technical tasks and requests, whilst encouraging level 1 technical tasks to be carried out by level 1 technicians.
· Assist in the maintenance of the Technical Services budget and its expenditure including the stock control of consumables.
· Ensuring that data is secure and that full back-up and disaster recovery programmes are in place.
· Ensure that anti-virus software is up-to-date and the network is fully virus protected.
· Ensure that Windows updates are applied, up-to-date and the network is fully patched and protected.
· Testing and Installation of software as required.
· Assist in the maintenance and support of the School’s Management Information Systems.
· To work with the Technical Services Management on whole School matters.
Under the guidance of the Technical Services Management to work with Head of Departments (middle management) in terms of ICT development.
