Job overview

As part of the Technical Support team, the Engineer will play a key role in providing advanced technical support and maintenance of the operational integrity of mission critical IT systems, infrastructure, and telecommunications.

The Support Engineer will provide third-line support for complex technical issues escalated beyond the first and second line. This role involves systems administration, troubleshooting infrastructure problems, ensuring compliance with security policies, and collaborating with external vendors to resolve technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  •  Technical Support Engineer with responsibility for the core IT infrastructure at multiple locations
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting for IT systems, telecoms, and infrastructure issues in a 3rd line position
  • Maintain IT equipment to ensure its efficient operation and performance levels.
  • Administer and monitor IT systems, ensuring operational efficiency and security.
  •  Manage and resolve complex incidents, problems, and requests in a timely manner.
  •  Maintain security standards and configure access rights for users.
  • Proactively monitor data storage solutions and manage resource allocation.
  •  Document and maintain procedures and configurations for infrastructure and hardware.
  • Work with third-party providers to resolve issues and evaluate new or replacement hardware.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of IT policies and procedures.
  • Provide configuration support for software products and ensure effective operation for end-users.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to manage system performance and optimise functionality.
  •  Manage application packaging, automation, and software compatibility testing.
  • Ensure business continuity through disaster recovery and continuity planning.
  •  Deploy both hardware and software to facilitate the educational experience.
  •  Utilise knowledge of the area of work to support an effective, user-friendly, and professional service.
  •  Embracing a security-first posture and approach to work

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential skills:

• Proven experience in IT systems administration in a multi-supplier environment.

• Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, networking principles, and cloud technologies including Azure, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Intune

• In-depth technical knowledge of Microsoft Technologies, VMware ESXi, SQL, and software packaging and deployments

• In-depth infrastructure knowledge and skills to manage and develop a large corporate network across multiple sites including experience with next generation firewalls

• Experience managing IT security standards and configuring access control.

• Ability to work under pressure, managing multiple priorities and unexpected issues.

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues
