30 hours per week – Term Time Only

8.30 am to 3pm – Monday to Friday 

G4 (6 to 11) based on current salary/experience


Required from September, an enthusiastic, innovative and committed Technician/TA to join a successful and dynamic food team with some good results. 

Experience of working with secondary age students and specific subject knowledge and experience in Food will be an advantage. However, you the successful candidate may be asked to work with other faculties/departments as needed by the Academy so experience of other subjects would be beneficial.

The main aim of the role is to support students to achieve their full potential by providing support in Food Technology, supporting with the preparation of materials, equipment and ingredients as well as supporting students within lessons in preparing food or with their learning.

Food Technology at Joseph Leckie is a well subscribed and popular subject. The successful candidate will be able to bring their own individual flair to the post in order to continue supporting recent improvements in achievement in the department at both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 and support with further developments at Key Stage 5 as required.

There are two well equipped practical rooms and laptops available for use. As part of the department there will be scope for the successful candidate to assist with the development of house cooking competitions and a cooking club which in the past has been oversubscribed.

You will have:

• Practical skills and expertise as outlined in the Job description 

• The ability to motivate and inspire students

• The ability to stimulate curiosity, interest and enjoyment in Food Technology

• Knowledge of the maintenance of specialist facilities including cleaning and food preparation

• Skills and knowledge of stock control

• Have a love for the subject and project this to the students and staff.

• Have experience in working with young people.

• Have food practical skills.

• Have basic food hygiene knowledge.

• The ability to work with students and support them in their learning

• Creative skills and a professional approach

• High expectations of students

• The determination to support in raising student achievement

• Team skills

• A clear understanding of the importance of Safeguarding.
