The Team

The Motor Vehicle team work with students across a range of different courses from general Light Vehicle Maintenance to Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, Vehicle Refinishing, Fabrication and Welding. Automotive full-time courses are run for a full range of levels from Level 1 to Level 3. The college also have a part time adult provision in both Light Vehicle Maintenance and Fabrication and Welding. 

The Role

This role would be suited to someone looking to support students learning, with a particular focus on the Light Vehicle Maintenance curriculum. You will support our Motor Vehicle teachers in a vehicle workshop environment with a particular emphasis on health and safety.

You may be asked to demonstrate tasks to enable students to learn new specialist Motor Vehicle skills on their learning programmes. The role could include delivery of general information sessions for students on health and safety in Motor Vehicle. 

Managing and ordering equipment, materials and stock within Motor Vehicle in an effective and sustainable manner is an essential part of the role.

The Successful Candidate

The successful candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, abilities and qualities will include: 

  • Educated to level 4 (including GCSE Maths & English at a grade C/4 or above) 
  • A qualification in Motor Vehicle is desirable but not essential. The candidate must be able to demonstrate skills and expertise in the specialist area. 
  • Experience of working with young people and adults 
  • Enthusiastic, motivated and committed to supporting and motivating students. 
  • Digital skills are desirable but not essential, including word processing and electronic communication. 
  • Passionate about the Motor Vehicle industry. 
  • Well organised and able to plan and manage resources in a highly effective manner.

Northampton College is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational further education college situated in Northamptonshire. It is a 16-plus institution with three campuses: a major building at its main Northampton site, a smaller campus near the town centre and another 20 miles away in Daventry. It provides places for around 9,000 students aged 16 and over, most of whom are full-time and aged 16-18.

Northampton College was opened in 1973. It merged with Daventry Tertiary College to expand its Daventry campus in August 2004, and its Booth Lane campus reopened after a large redevelopment in 2012.
