An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and capable Technician – Wood Occupations. With a turnover of £65m annually, the College Group services c.22,000 learners each year from a diverse variety of backgrounds. The successful applicant will provide technical support to staff and students within the Pillar. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Use specialist knowledge of the area of work to carry out a range of specialist and diverse tasks to support an effective, user-friendly and professional service.
  • Provide general support for the teaching of students in the area.
  • Set up and operate a range of machinery/equipment to an agreed service level.
  • Demonstrate a range of equipment to staff / students and instruct them on the safe use of equipment and techniques.
  • Support the design of the equipment / workshop layout.
  • Carry out maintenance tasks including a range of testing to ensure equipment remains in a good working condition / arrange safe disposal (including hazardous waste). This will include more complex equipment which may require a licence to operate.
  • Carry out relevant portable appliance testing for the area.
  • Establishes systems to ensure accurate records of maintenance etc. are kept.
  • Transport goods and equipment using trolleys / vehicles and complete site set up.

The successful applicant will hold a NVQ2 Wood Occupations qualification or equivalent coupled with relevant sector practical experience and trade skills.
