Holy Cross College is seeking to appoint a Temporary Teacher of Biology and Applied Science (0.8 - 1.0 FTE) to commence from 23rd August 2023.

You will join us on a salary of £28,125 to £44,256 per annum, plus excellent benefits! 

The Biology subject team believe that active learning, especially the where practical work plays a key role in teaching and learning. A highly qualified and experienced technical support team facilitate this. The Biology team takes great pride in the quality of its teaching and the support that it gives to students. Therefore, reviewing teaching and learning strategies to provide opportunities for students to maximise their potential, enjoy and become motivated by the subject, is an integral part of the subject area’s ethos. Many of our students go on to study Medicine and other Biology related degrees at some of the country’s top universities. The area has three dedicated laboratories and a theory teaching room with interactive white board facilities. The use of ILT is also important across the department, with access to class sets of laptops for specific tasks.

We teach the AQA syllabus.

The subject area currently has 10 groups in the lower sixth and 11 in the upper sixth. Student numbers in 2022/23 are:

Similarly, the Applied Science subject area consists of 7 members of teaching staff, some of whom also teach in the A Level sciences. The department is housed in the science division with access to 7 well equipped laboratories and 5 theory classrooms. All rooms are fully resourced with interactive whiteboards and linked to the College network. There are laptop trolleys and a dedicated computer room. It is one of the larger departments in the college as well as one of the top performing.

The department currently delivers the following qualifications:

• NQF Level 2 First Award in Principles of Applied Science

• NQF Level 3 Extended Certificate in Applied Science

• NQF Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science Staff in across the Science cluster actively promote extra-curricular activities to enrich our students experience at Holy Cross.

The successful candidate will be required to teach year one of the A level Biology course and a small amount of Applied Science. Experience in teaching BTEC Applied Science at Level 2 and/or 3 would therefore be desirable.
