Temporary Teacher of Humanities, English and Drama

We are looking to appoint a temporary Teacher of Humanities, English and Drama to support the school through a period of change and expansion as we approach the openning of Bullers Wood School for Boys. 

This post is available in January until August and offers an exciting opportunity to join an enthusiastic staff and very supportive department whose members are committed to making a real difference.  The school was last fully inspected by Ofsted in May 2011 and we were awarded Outstanding. We are very proud of our achievements and for the last 4 years we have been congratulated by the Minister of State for Schools on our achievements at GCSE level placing us in the top 100 non-selective state-funded schools in England. In addition, we were in the top 100 for pupils achieving the English Baccalaureate. We have also regularly been in the top 10% nationally (out of over 2,500 schools and colleges) for our A level performance assessed by ALPS.  We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to help us to ensure that in every way Bullers Wood remains an outstanding school at our next Ofsted inspection, and that every one of our students achieves and exceeds both their targets and expectations.  

The successful candidate will join Bullers Wood at an exciting time as we approach the opening of a secondary free school, Bullers Wood School for Boys in September 2018. This means that in the future there will be opportunities for enhanced professional and career development within the Bullers Wood Multi Academy Trust across both the Girls and the Boys schools.  

The History Department is lively and forward-looking and is committed to achieving success for all its students.  The department is friendly, approachable and supportive and enjoys working together to generate new ideas.  It meets on a regular basis to discuss policy and current issues and to keep informed about new initiatives and the daily organisation of the department. The History department is well equipped with many online and written resources, supplemented with a broad DVD catalogue.  The teaching rooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards.   

The Geography Department is very successful and achieves very good results in Key Stage 4 and 5. Geography is a very popular subject at both GCSE and A level. The staff work well together as a team and are passionate about their subject. Lessons are inspiring and well prepared. All lessons for KS3, GCSE and A level are on the VLE and the students have full access to lessons, resources and revision materials.

The Drama Department consists of 3 members of specialist staff and is supported by staff from other departments in the teaching of KS3. Drama is a popular subject with high numbers opting to take the subject at KS4 and small groups at KS5.  We also have a high involvement of students across the school participating in extra-curricular activities led by the department. 

The English Department is a stable and dedicated team of 12 specialist teachers. At KS3, students currently follow a 2 year curriculum. KS4 students follow the AQA GCSE English Language syllabus and the AQA English Literature GCSE syllabus. English Literature and English Language are popular choices for students at Post 16 with 4 Literature groups running at AS and A2 and 2 Language groups at AS and A2.
