Job overview

Temporary Teacher of MFL – Pay Spine

Required from 1 September 2023.

We are seeking a well-qualified teacher to join our MFL team on a temporary basis to cover the maternity absence of the current postholder. Our ideal candidate will have a track record of delivering great learning experiences in the classroom and supporting others to do the same.

The Elton High School is a heavily oversubscribed school with a tradition of excellence. We have a history of high achievement with results regularly placing us as amongst the highest performing schools in Bury LA. The successful applicant will be part of a department team who are a fantastic set of professionals, wholly supportive and collaborative. MFL is one of the most popular subjects at GCSE due to the engaging lessons and high profile across school. We regularly have more than 80 students opting to take it at GCSE and it plays a key role in driving whole school performance measures. This is an opportunity to contribute to our next steps in pushing Elton to realise its potential as one of the very best schools in the Greater Manchester area.

Our most recent Ofsted inspection (February 2022) reiterated the strengths that had been confirmed in the previous report (2017) and are firmly embedded across our school. The inspection team noted that ‘pupils are proud to attend’ Elton with an established culture of ‘high aspirations for what pupils can achieve’.  Our students achieve well, with inspectors being particularly impressed with the climate for learning and behaviour of our students – their ‘positive behaviour at all times is characteristic of the respectful culture of this school [and] their positive conduct reflects leaders’ high standards’. This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented and experienced teacher to demonstrate impact in a key subject area.

We have a strong system of staff training in place aimed at developing the very best practice and we have a constant focus on ensuring that all of our team feel supported to give of their best and to have a work life balance. We pride ourselves on taking a proactive approach to promoting the wellbeing of everyone in our school community.

The school has excellent transport links with the M60, M61, M62 and M66 Motorways crisscrossing the area plus the Metrolink Light Rapid Transit system with a fast and frequent service from Bury centre through Manchester city centre to East Didsbury.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. Appointment is subject to a satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the DBS.

Further details can be provided by the Head of Department, Mrs Rhian Bardsley. We encourage you to contact her if you wish to arrange a visit to the school or if you need more information - email bardsleyr@eltonhigh.bury.sch.uk
