Job overview

Amicus provides care, education and treatment to emotionally traumatised children aged 5 - 18 years old. We are a small, innovative independent children’s therapeutic community with a school accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

We currently have an exciting vacancy for a Therapeutic Head Teacher and are looking for an experienced, committed and creative individual who is interested in developing their career as an educational leader in special educational needs.

Managing a small team, you will be educating children with emotional and behavioural difficulties in our DfES registered Independent SEN school for up to 12 students. As well as having a commitment to developing children’s potential, you will have an interest in working psychodynamically and a passion for wanting to make a difference.

A qualified teacher with at least three years’ experience, you will be educated to degree level and have experience of working with children with SEN and challenging behaviours. You will also have experience of tracking, evidencing and raising student’s progress.

As Therapeutic Head Teacher, you will oversee the development and running of the school, delivery of education to the students, and provide management and leadership support to the education staff.

You will also to ensure there is a high standard of therapeutic education and nurture delivered to the students, and that good parental care is modeled so they can thrive in their education setting and make good academic progress. This is in accordance with regulatory requirements and also our model of therapeutic practice.
