We are looking for personable Maths graduates with good degrees to join this highly successful and innovative co-educational school. We offer a unique 3 year programme of fully funded teacher training, together with free on site accommodation and free meals in term time.
The programme provides high quality training as follows:
Year 1: Graduate Teacher.
During your first year as a Graduate Teacher you will be given a range of opportunities to experience all aspects of the teaching profession in a professional and vibrant school setting. In the classroom you will start by shadowing experienced classroom teachers, and observing a range of outstanding practitioners across a range of subjects and key stages. Regular mentoring will help you to progress from team teaching through to taking your own classes. You will also work closely within the department in your chosen subject area, building your subject specific knowledge and pedagogy. Outside of the classroom you will play a part in the House system and work closely in tutoring pupils as well as becoming involved in house activities and events.
Year 2: PGCE
Those Graduate Teachers who show the commitment and promise of developing into an outstanding practitioner during their first year of training, will be offered the opportunity to be sponsored through their PGCE year by the College. This is a school-based course, closely guided by a mentor, as provided by Sussex University or similar provider. The teaching load will increase and further responsibility will be given for teaching your own classes. Structured support will still be in place and weekly mentoring and observations will continue. To widen your teaching experience beyond the Independent sector, a placement in a State School will be organised.
Year 3: NQT
During this year, NQTs have greater autonomy and responsibility in their teaching, but a safety net of mentoring, observations and INSET remains in place.
If you are excited by this opportunity, please contact Michelle Zeidler, the Director of Professional Development at Hurstpierpoint College, at firstname.lastname@example.org to express your interest and to find out more.
