Job overview

The Institute for Teaching (IfT) is a new specialist higher education institution for teachers. Our mission to train and develop expert teachers who work where they are needed most.

The IfT was founded by a group of high performing schools, multi-academy trusts and teaching school alliances and Ark Teacher Training, a high performing initial teacher training provider that was graded Outstanding by Ofsted in January 2017.

  • We believe that filling schools with expert teachers is the best way to ensure that every child gets the knowledge, skills and character they need to choose who they want to be;
  • We believe that becoming an expert teacher is impossible without high quality training throughout a teacher’s career;
  • We are obsessed with the pedagogy of teacher education and have a clear model of what teachers should learn, and how they should learn it; and,
  • We are eager to understand if our model is working and how it can be improved. To do this the IfT must be the home of debate about teacher education and accountable for the progress of its pupils.

We are looking for both primary and secondary specialists to work with our Tutors, Curriculum Designers and network of expert teachers to design and deliver world-class training and development to trainees and teachers. The post-holder will be responsible for the design and delivery of the taught elements of the curriculum (both face-to-face and online) as well as providing additional one to one support to individual trainees and schools.

In order to excel in the role the post-holder will need to be an excellent teacher with a track record of delivering excellent achievement for pupils – particularly those who are vulnerable to underachievement. They will also have experience of coaching trainees and teachers; leading professional development sessions and have an understanding of best practice in teacher training and development. Most importantly, the post-holder will have a strong interest in our work with the drive and desire to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged students.

To apply for the role you will need to submit the following:
1. A cover letter (no more than 2 sides) outlining which location you would like to work in and how your knowledge, skills and experience meet the requirement of role
2. CV (maximum 2 pages)

Applications should be submitted via the online recruitment portal https://www.arkcareers.org/e/phases_and_departments/positions/bIN9yZCT5hQl0uZ7MqJRCd no later than 9:00 am on Friday 31st March.
