Job overview

Required for September 2022 a permanent, full time Transition Teacher (UPS)

We are looking to appoint a dynamic teacher to teach a class of up to sixteen students in Year 7. Students will have come into Year 7 working below expected levels in reading, writing and Maths and/or have additional needs. We are excited to be able to support students with two transition classes due to the success of the current transition model, plus the creation of our new resource base.

The role of the teacher is to work with the students to deliver a curriculum that will ensure they are ready to take a full and active part in life in mainstream lessons within the school by the time they are in Year 8.

The curriculum delivered by you will predominantly focus on the core areas in Maths and English whilst you will also teach Science, Humanities and some Language Studies. Students will then attend approximately 50% of lessons with mainstream Year 7 students where they will be taught Design Technology, Food Studies, Art, Drama, Music, PE and ICT. You will work together with the other transition teacher.

This role is highly important to the continuing progress of Marple Hall, and there is much that the successful applicant will be able to do in order to make their mark and further develop this area of the school. Further experiences and skill development will be provided to support your career development and promotion opportunities. Excellent further professional development is offered by the school, including excellent support and CPD for NQTs.

The role would particularly but not exclusively suit teachers with Year 6 primary school or secondary special education experience together with a background in transition and in social communication difficulties.

Closing date for applications: 9am Tuesday 17th May 2022
