Job overview

Veritas Educational Trust is seeking to appoint new Trustees to join our Board and help shape the strategic direction of our Trust and Bishop Ramsey CE School.

As a Church of England academy trust, Veritas is committed to delivering high-quality education rooted in strong Christian values of wisdom, courage and respect, ensuring that every learner can thrive and achieve their full potential.

The role of a Trustee

Trustees work collectively as part of the Trust Board to provide strategic leadership, oversight and accountability. Trustees do not become involved in the day-to-day running of schools, but instead focus on:

  • Setting and safeguarding the Trust’s vision, ethos and strategic priorities

  • Supporting and constructively challenging executive leaders

  • Overseeing educational performance, financial sustainability, risk and compliance

  • Ensuring robust governance, effective safeguarding arrangements and statutory compliance

  • Acting as ambassadors for the Trust and its values

Trustees may also serve on one of the Board’s committees (such as Finance, Audit and Risk or Curriculum and Community), depending on skills and interests.

All Trust Boards have 3 core functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of the vision, ethos and strategic direction

  • Holding Executive Leaders to account for educational performance of the school(s) its pupils and the effective and efficient performance management of staff

  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school(s) and making sure that money is well spent

Who we are looking for

We welcome applications from individuals with a genuine commitment to education and public service. Previous trustee or governance experience is helpful but not essential.

We are particularly interested in people who bring skills or experience in areas such as:

  • Education leadership or school improvement

  • Finance, audit or risk management

  • HR, people management or organisational change

  • Legal, estates or property

  • Safeguarding, SEND or inclusion

  • Community engagement or stakeholder relations

Please note that to maintain an effective balance within the Trust Board, we will prioritise candidates whose own children do not attend Bishop Ramsey School.

We are keen to broaden the diversity of our Board and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. All our Trustees commit to the Seven Principles of Public Life:

  • Selflessness

  • Integrity

  • Objectivity

  • Accountability

  • Openness

  • Honesty

  • Leadership

Time commitment

Trustees typically attend:

  • 4–6 Trust Board meetings per year (2 face-to-face)

  • Committee meetings (usually 2–4 per year, via Teams)

  • Occasional training or development sessions

Meetings are a mix of in‑person and online and are scheduled well in advance.

What we offer

  • A meaningful opportunity to make a difference to children and young people

  • Induction, training and ongoing support

  • A collaborative board culture grounded in clear values and transparency

  • Expenses reimbursed in line with Trust policy

Safeguarding and eligibility

The role is subject to eligibility checks, including an enhanced DBS check. Trustees must be aged 18 or over and not disqualified from acting as a charity trustee.

If you are interested in becoming a Trustee, we would be delighted to hear from you. For an informal conversation or to request further information, please contact Ms Kirsty McLean via kmclean@bishopramseyschool.org

Closing date: 23:59 on 31st May 2026.

Bishop Ramsey, is an extremely successful and consistently oversubscribed Church of England school and our staff team is supportive and considerate. The caring ethos makes Bishop Ramsey a rewarding place to work. We are committed to ensuring high standards and high aspirations, of active participation and of creating emotionally rich learning environments. This is an important part of the character of our Trust. We value our close local partnerships and genuinely collegial way of working. We recognise that an excellent working environment requires excellent support and we are committed to providing exceptional training as well as support for staff wellbeing.

As a Church of England Trust, we are a Christian Learning Community and we value inclusion and diversity highly and actively celebrate our differences as a staff body and as role models for our students. We recognise that it is not necessary to be a practising Christian in order to support our Christian ethos and therefore we welcome applications from candidates from any background.
