Job overview

GLF Schools is seeking to appoint three Trustees (non-executive directors) to join its board. This is an exciting opportunity to join the board of one of the largest Multi Academy Trusts in the country and make a real difference to the life prospects of over 17,000 children and young people.

Trustees - or non-executive directors - are both charity trustees and company directors of the Academy Trust. The core functions of their role are:

  • ensuring clarity of vision
  • ethos and strategic direction
  • holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance
  • providing financial oversight of a charitable company funded by the public purse.
  • using any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have in which the Trustee has special expertise.

The board seeks 3 business leaders:

Role 1: Trustee - essential experience of fundraising and charity

  • A business leader who has a substantial background as a senior charity fundraiser with a sound understanding and experience of charity fundraising at strategic and operational levels.

Role 2: Trustee - essential experience of education

  • A business leader who has a substantial background within the Education Sector.

Role 3: Trustee - essential experience of either Marketing, Human Resources, Education or Corporate Governance

  • A business leader who can use their knowledge/experience to support the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions.

As a key member of the board, you will support the Trust in achieving the following over the next 12 – 24 months:

➔ Raise our Level - To make improvements so that we deliver excellence in all areas of our work: outcomes for children, calibre of workforce and quality of service

➔ Operational Effectiveness - To ensure that the Trust is operating within a financial sustainable and efficient model, so that excellent outcomes can be delivered for our children.

➔ Provide More - To capitalise on the benefits of being a large Trust; to ensure that these are realised and translate to improving the outcomes for our disadvantaged and vulnerable children.

Board governance in education is a strategic, ‘eyes on, hands off’ commitment, which typically involves attending around six board meetings per year plus committee meetings equating to around 6-8 hours per month. Meetings are held remotely (via Microsoft Teams) and in-person (SM7 1AG). You will be able to claim for travel expenses if needed.

Although this role is voluntary, our Trustees are invaluable to us at GLF Schools.

For more information, please see the attached Role Summary or contact the Trusts Governance Manager (details of which can be found on page 2 in the attached Join Our Community pack)

All roles are pro bono, and the closing date for applications is 30th April 2023.

We would love to hear from you if you are looking to give something back to your community and ultimately support our Trust to deliver the very best outcomes for our children.
